Events: Don’t Frack Illinois Emergency Rally

When: Friday, March 22, 2013 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Where: State of Illinois James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St., Chicago

What: A rally to support a moratorium on fracking in Illinois to protect the environment and the residents of Illinois will take place in Chicago. Fracking in Illinois could start with the next few months without pushback. Southern Illinois and the Shawnee National Forest are in immediate danger. The rally will engage in the creative action of putting larger than life caution tape around the Thompson Center to show that fracking will turn Illinois into a toxic mess.

Events: Women’s and Gender Studies Conference: Futuristic Feminisms: Visionary Perspectives Across the Disciplines

When: Friday, March 22, 2013. Registration, 8:30 – 9:00 am; Opening session and keynote speaker, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm; Lunch, afternoon sessions and reception, 12:00 – 5:00 pm

Where: Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Rd., Des Plaines

What: Join friends and colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, backgrounds and institutions for this one-day conference to examine future directions of feminism and Women’s and Gender Studies through diverse lenses. Keynote speaker is Chicago native, Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, award-winning poet and activist.

Events: Reclaim Democracy: A Presentation by Jack Altschuler on the Influence of Money in Politics

Where: North Shore Unitarian Church, 2100 Half Day Rd., Deerfield

What: The North Shore Unitarian Church Adult Education Committee is hosting a presentation focused on the influx of enormous sums of money into politics. Learn about the Supreme Court decisions that allowed this to happen and how to bring better balance to campaign financing. Jack Altschuler, leadership workshop and keynote speaker for Fully Alive Leadership will be the presenter.

What: In recognition of Voices for Illinois Children 25th anniversary report, “Moving Policy, Making Progress,” the Illinois Kids Count 2013 Symposium will focus on the progress and challenges over more than two decades. Keynote speaker will be Dr. James Garbarino of Loyola University.
