Even now, a year after the Supreme Court’s horrendous and ugly Dobbs decision that nullified Roe v. Wade, the war against reproductive health care rights continues to rage. Ultra right-wing judges and the MAGA-controlled Republican Party have every intention of banning abortion nation-wide at any cost. They are perfectly willing to deny proper medical treatment during miscarriages and to force motherhood even on adolescents and teenagers who have been raped.

We hope you’ll join us for our next installment of Tenth Dems U’s Let’s Talk Politics series, with a focus on reproductive rights. This is an urgently important conversation.

Conversation on Zoom Kicks Off Fall Connection Canvassing PushStrategist

Thanks to everyone — over 50 people! — who joined us for Lake Dems presents: Connecting with Voters — A Conversation with Jon Carson, A Top Obama Strategist.

Jon Carson served as National Field Director for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and was Deputy Assistant to the President for Public Engagement. He gave the Zoom crowd some great insight into building relationships with voters. Plus, we heard about his time with Barack Obama. It was terrific! Lake County Democrats are fired up and ready to go.

Carson highly recommended getting involved with Lake Dems’ Fall Connection Canvassing project. Getting to know folks and hearing what’s on their minds before there are even candidates on the ballot is how we’re able to connect with them and turn out the vote for Democrats later.

Lake Dems are excited to be doing this Fall Connection Canvassing. It’s not just important politically, it’s also really fun and interesting to build these relationships, whether door to door or on the phone. Interested in canvassing with us? We’ll supply you with lists of voters, training, and handouts to give to your Democratic neighbors.

Saturday, 10/9: Grant Township Democrats Rollins Road Cleanup. Assemble in the parking lot off Rollins Road at the Long Lake Trailhead. 9-11am. Rain date is October 16, same time.

Wednesday, 10/20: Personal PAC 28th Annual Awards Luncheon with Georgia’s U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock. Virtual program, noon to 1:25pm.

Thursday, 10/21: Virtual Reception for Susana Mendoza with Stacey Abrams. A virtual reception for Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza with special guest Stacey Abrams. Online via Zoom. 5-7pm.

Saturday, 10/23: NAACP Lake County Freedom Fund Gala. Keynote speaker: Darren Hutchinson, Emory University Inaugural John Lewis Chair for Civil Rights & Social Justice. 6-10pm, dinner served at 7pm. Westin North Shore Chicago Hotel, 601 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling.

Wednesday, 10/27: Deputy Voter Registrar Training in Waukegan. Free training through the County Clerk’s office. Sign-ups taken up to 24 hours before class starts. Illinois Democrats Lead, Deliver Historic Clean Energy Law

Thank you, Governor Pritzker, and all the Democratic state legislators representing Lake County, for delivering a new energy law that helps the people of Illinois and shows the rest of the country how to move forward in this crucial area. Our Lake County legislators who helped pass this historic measure were: State Senators Julie Morrison, Adriane Johnson, and Melinda Bush, as well as State Representatives Jonathan Carroll, Bob Morgan, Dan Didech, Rita Mayfield, Joyce Mason, and Sam Yingling.

We’ve worked hard to elect more Democrats in our area — but we can’t let up. Please “like” the Lake County Democrats’ NEW Facebook page so we can stand up to right-wing extremism and keep moving forward in 2022 and beyond.

Like the new Lake Dems Facebook page and invite your Democratic friends to like it too!

Many of us have been in a Facebook group. This new page is the public page. We want to show everyone — Democrats looking for their county party, independents in our area leaning toward us because of the values we stand for, and even those right-wing Republicans trying to take the country backward — what Lake Dems is all about.
