Let’s Talk Politics in Gurnee May 25th

Even now, a year after the Supreme Court’s horrendous and ugly Dobbs decision that nullified Roe v. Wade, the war against reproductive health care rights continues to rage. Ultra right-wing judges and the MAGA-controlled Republican Party have every intention of banning abortion nation-wide at any cost. They are perfectly willing to deny proper medical treatment during miscarriages and to force motherhood even on adolescents and teenagers who have been raped.

We hope you’ll join us for our next installment of Tenth Dems U’s Let’s Talk Politics series, with a focus on reproductive rights. This is an urgently important conversation.

What: Tenth Dems, Warren Dems and Lake Dems cohost Tenth Dems U’s Let’s Talk Politics—Focus on Reproductive Rights.

Make a Plan to Vote by Tuesday, April 4

Did you know that off-year municipal elections are historically low turnout elections? Your vote really matters, as numerous candidates espousing right-wing views are on the ballot this year. One of them even took part in the January 6 insurrection!

Election Day is next Tuesday, April 4. You may still register to vote during Early Voting at any Early Voting site, or on Election Day at your home polling place. If you register during Early Voting or on Election Day and want to vote in the current election, you must vote at the same time. You will need two forms of identification, one of which must show your current Lake County address. Check out this list for what is acceptable.

If you have any questions about registering to vote or voting in the April 4 election, call the Lake County Democrats’ Voter Assistance Hotline at 847-432-8683.

Statement on Women’s History Month From Lake Dems Chair Lauren Beth Gash

Statement on Black History Month from Our Founder, Lauren Beth Gash (proposed)

Here is a message from Tenth Dems Founder and current Lake Dems Chair, Lauren Beth Gash, that we thought you’d be interested in:

As Black History Month comes to an end, we celebrate the 153rd anniversary of the ratification of the 15th Amendment, which barred federal and state governments from denying or abridging the right to vote “on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”  The month comes to an end, but the fight for equality goes on.

Our country still strives to fulfill Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of a “nation [that] will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” But we still have a long way to go. In states across the country, radical MAGA Republicans are passing laws that make it harder for Black Americans and others to vote, or that dilute their electoral power.

Lake County Democrats will continue to fight for every citizen’s right to vote. We’ll continue to organize, to campaign, and to protest against attempts to limit rights. We’ll keep working to help ensure that everyone who is entitled to vote is allowed to vote and we’ll keep fighting to fulfill Dr. King’s dream. We hope you’re with us in this fight. Democrats know that our diversity is our strength. When we’re united, the politics of division will always fail.

As Dr. King said, “The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice.” Yes, history bends toward justice. But each one of us should do what we can to help that arc bend faster. There’s a lot more to be done as we work to make the world a better place.

Sincerely,

Lauren Beth Gash, Chair
Lake County Democrats
