Job Description
Lake County is seeking an individual who can perform work of moderate difficulty in providing professional legal representation for the indigent accused of Lake County. This is a professional legal position. A candidate in this position prepares and tries assigned misdemeanor, traffic, or juvenile cases. Responsibility for assigned cases is from inception to ultimate disposition. Work is performed under the direction of the public defender.

Required Skills
In order to be successful in this position a candidate must have good knowledge of the methods, principles and practices of criminal law. They must have the ability to analyze legal problems and present findings in a clear and logical form and have considerable skill in written and oral communication. The candidate will also have working skill in effective interviewing and counseling techniques; good knowledge of the procedures and rules of evidence; and good knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, practices and references utilized in legal research. In addition, the candidate must have the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with court officials, county officials and the general public.

Required Experience
This position requires graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school. Candidate must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.

Position: Maintenance Worker III – Horticulturist

Salary Range: $31,432 – $52,383 annually depending on qualifications plus excellent benefit

General Statement of Duties: Responsible for the district’s horticultural/grounds maintenance operations. Act as a crew leader of the horticulture crew including training, supervising and monitoring work of assigned staff.

Description/Duties: Responsible for outdoor annual and perennial beds operation and maintenance to include, but not limited to: bed designs, weeding, cultivation, fertilization, planting, pruning, pesticide application, transplanting, and watering. Perform tree installation and removals, pruning, fertilization and watering. Coordinate plant health care, integrated pest and disease management programs; apply pesticides, fungicides and herbicides as needed. Assist with natural areas management, including prescribed burns. Prepare status report of assigned jobs and maintain tree inventories using Treekeeper Software. Perform routine and non-routine park improvement/maintenance functions to include, but not limited to athletic field maintenance, park mowing operations, park cleanup, pesticide applications, turf aeration and fertilization, tree planting and/or removals, landscape maintenance and improvements, snow removal, outdoor ice rink/sled hill maintenance and capital improvement projects. Assist with the district’s snow removal operations, including plowing, snow blowing, shoveling, and salting of walkways and parking lots. Operate trucks, trailers, wood chippers, sod cutters, chain saw, hand and power tools and all other maintenance and mechanical equipment. Maintain records of all horticultural operation functions to include, but not limited to: maintenance schedules, inventory materials and supplies ordering. Participate in park district Safety and Training Program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.

Qualifications:
Education: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Forestry or related field. Additional training or education related to duties and responsibilities of position.

Experience: Minimum three (3) years of related horticultural/grounds maintenance experience required.

Knowledge: Horticulture/Landscape Maintenance operations. Park Maintenance operations and use of equipment. Snow removal: Perform snow removal including plowing, snowblowing, shoveling and salting of walkways and parking lots. Understand and use basic current computer operating systems and job related software applications.
License /

Certification: Valid driver’s license
Pesticide Public Operator’s License – State of Illinois, within one year of employment. Pesticide Applicator license preferred.
First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one year.
Hours: Full-time, year-round position at 40 hours per week. Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Ability to work weekends and holidays as assigned.

Position: Recreation Specialist – Youth Athletics Programs and Services

Salary Range: $36,452 – $60,757 annually depending upon qualifications plus excellent benefit

General Statement of Duties: Planning, organization, and supervision of programs, activities, and special events.

Description/Duties: Assist with planning, organizing, implementation, and oversight of recreational/general interest programs and special events with an emphasis on youth sports, fitness activities. Provide direct leadership and supervision to all assigned recreational programs and services. Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of participants. Assist in the development and implementation of long-range plans and strategies. Develop and implement annual goals and objectives. Evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of programs and services, making recommendations on introduction or deletion of programs and services. Assist in the development and implementation of specific program details consistent with recreation marketing strategy including appropriate pricing and promotional efforts. Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal/temporary staff and volunteers. Contract with independent contractors and vendors for programs and services as needed. Establish a cooperative planning and working relationship with community agencies and organizations. Review and prepare costs for program centers of of the annual budget. Secure alternative funding through grants, sponsorships, and fund raising. Purchase, distribute, and maintain proper inventory of all supplies and materials. Prepare and maintain management reports and records regarding programs and services. Transport program participants and supplies via park district vehicles. Work closely with school officials whose facilities are being used by the park district, making regular program inspections of school sites. Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions. Conduct self according to the policies and procedures as established by the park district. Participate in park district Safety and Training Program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner. Assist staff and volunteers in the performance of their duties. Participate and become involved in organizations and/or community meetings whose purpose will be of benefit to the park district operation. Serve on in-house committees. Attend seminars and training workshops. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor Degree in Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education, or related field.

Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience in a recreational setting, preferably in a recreation department, school district, social service agency, or non-profit organization. May be obtained through a combination of seasonal, part time, or temporary positions.

Knowledge: General knowledge of recreation, parks, and leisure services field. General knowledge of recreation principles and philosophy. Specific knowledge of youth athletic programs and services.
License /

Certification: Valid driver’s license required.
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certificate required within one year.
NYSCA (National Youth Sports Coaches Association) certification required.

Description/Duties: Assist with planning, organization, implementation, and oversight of

aquatics activities. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of aquatics operational procedures. Assist in the assigning and scheduling of aquatics personnel to maximize customer satisfaction. Assist in the coordination of new member orientation appointments with service staff. Assist in the management of fitness member registration, renewals, leave of absence, and refunds. Manage service to patrons at aquatics facilities. Provide direct leadership and supervision to all assigned recreation programs and services. Provide developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of participants. Assist in the development and implementation of long-range plans and strategies. Develop and implement annual goals and objectives. Evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of program and services, making recommendations on introduction or deletion of programs and services. Conduct self according to the policies and procedures as established by the park district. Participate in park district Safety and Training Program to ensure that work performed and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
