Rosey’s MS Foundation Nip MS in the Bud Walk for a Cure

When: Sunday, April 10, 2016, registration at 7:30am, the walk begins promptly at 8:30am

Where: Chicago Botanic Garden,  1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL  Lot P2

What: Rosey’s MS Foundation presents Nip MS in the Bud Walk for a Cure.  The entire registration fee goes to support multiple sclerosis research led by Dr. Stephen Miller in the Department of Microbiology Immunology at Northwestern Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine.

Water and fun give-away items provided.

Tenth Dems Community Connection 6th Annual Poetry and Prose Contest Awards Night

When: Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 7:00 – 9:00pm

Where: Ramada Waukegan/Gurnee, 200 N. Green Bay Rd., Waukegan, IL

What: Join us for the 6th Annual Poetry and Prose Contest Awards Night.  Emcees are Dulce Ortiz of the Latino Coalition of Lake County and Hon. Marc Jones, Waukegan Park District Commissioner.  High school students from Zion, Waukegan and North Chicago have submitted original works of poetry and prose on the topic of “Justice” to Tenth Dems Community Connection’s 6th annual writing contest.  Students will read their original works aloud.  Submissions are being judged by a panel of published local authors.  Prizes of $150, $100 and $50 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded in poetry and prose categories.

Criminal Justice. A Conversation on Race, Morality, and Faith with Toni Preckwinkle

When: Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 4:00pm

Where: Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield, IL

What: A panel discussion, “Criminal Justice. A Conversation on Race, Morality, and Faith,” explores the inherent inequities in Illinois’ criminal justice system and proposed solutions.  Participants include Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Public Defender Amy Campanelli.  The panel will be moderated by Jennifer Vollen-Katz, Executive Director of the John Howard Association and Rabbi Paul F. Cohen of Temple Jeremiah.

Highland Park-Highwood Open Legal Aid Clinic

When: Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9:00am – noon

Where: Firehouse Youth Center, 1830 Green Bay Road, Highland Park, IL

What: An open clinic with staff and attorneys on hand to assist with legal issues in the areas of housing, including landlord-tenant issues, immigration, domestic violence and document interpretation.  Assistance is available to residents of Highland Park or Highwood who meet income requirements.
