Events: League of Women Voters and Round Lake Area Public Library Candidate Event

When: Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Doors open 6:30 pm, Event begins 7:00 pm

Where: Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, 2007 N. Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach

What: The League of Women Voters of Lake County and the Round Lake Area Public Library invite the public to attend this candidate event. Candidates will address the audience; the following have been invited: Avon Township Supervisor, Avon Township Clerk, Avon Township Assessor, Avon Township Highway Commissioner, Avon Township Trustees, Round Lake School District #116, Village of Round Lake and Village of Round Lake Park. Media partners include WRLR 98.3 FM and Comcast.

Events: The Changing Face of War Program Marks Tenth Anniversary of War in Iraq

When: Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Where: Grace Place, 637 S. Dearborn St., Chicago

What: The Chicago Area Peace Action and other groups mark the tenth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War in 2003 with a panel of speakers who will address the changing face of war. The increased use of drones for “targeted killings” results in the deaths of thousands of civilians while spending cuts are imposed on domestic programs in order to fund the Pentagon’s excessive spending and line the pockets of wealthy corporations. The fights for public education, housing, and healthcare are intricately tied to the fights against war and imperialism.
