Events: Warren Township Democrats May General Meeting

When: Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Where: Bake’s Sports Theme Restaurant, 33251 N. U.S. Highway 45 (just north of Center St./Deerpath Ave.), Wildwood

What: On the agenda will be a call for anyone wishing to be a Democratic candidate, distribution of Candidate Contact Information for the upcoming primary elections, volunteering opportunities and “Roundtable Politics 2,” where anyone may talk about any political issue they find important. All Democratic candidates are invited to speak before the group. Refreshments and food are available for purchase. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Events: Monthly Movie Series: “Bitter Seeds: Part of the Globalization Trilogy”

Where: PERLA Cafe, 1813 Dempster St. (near corner of Dempster and Dodge), Evanston

What: Occupy Evanston, Democracy in Action Chicago, Coalition to Overturn Citizens United, and End Money in Politics are sponsoring a showing of “Bitter Seeds,” a film about Monsanto’s introduction of genetically modified (GM) seeds in India. The GM seeds are much more expensive, need additional fertilizers and must be repurchased every season. A cotton farmer struggles to keep his land, and a neighbor’s daughter determines to make the story known.
