Lake County, IL – Local Republicans have announced they’re working with notorious right-wing extremist candidate for Governor of North Carolina Mark Robinson, who is set to appear at a suburban fundraiser on September 29, with the goal of “supporting local candidates and helping Trump-Vance win the battleground state of Wisconsin.” Rather than hide such a disgraceful connection, Lake County Republicans are actually promoting it.
Mark Robinson might be the most notorious Republican candidate this election cycle. Vox said Robinson “is off the rails, even by MAGA standards.” Mark Robinson, who is partnering with local Republicans to help Trump and candidates in the area, has a virtually endless list of examples showing him to be extreme, out of touch, and dangerous. They include:
- Saying women who have abortions “didn’t keep their skirt down”
- Denying the Holocaust
- Mocking victims of school shootings
- Calling gay people “filth”
- Saying the “Pride flag makes me sick”
- Describing public school teachers as “wicked”
- Declaring “some folks need killing”
- Denying the 2020 election results
- Downplaying slavery
Alongside other events, including those for State Representative Martin McLaughlin and candidate for Lake County State’s Attorney Mary Cole, the Lake County Republicans have included a link to the Mark Robinson fundraiser on their website and posted it via their Facebook page. It’s also been shared in the public Facebook groups of multiple Lake County Republican townships as well.
“Local Republicans ought to be ashamed of working with anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ+, Holocaust denier Mark Robinson, but it’s not surprising considering how deeply they’ve become the Party of Trump, even promoting the effort to help him win outside of Illinois too. Lake County voters are tired of this hateful, dangerous pollution of our democracy, and they’re going to reject Republican candidates once again,” said Lake County Democrats Chair Lauren Beth Gash.
“Lake County Democrats are working to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. Not only are we distributing yard signs to people eager to show support for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in Lake County, but we’re also making trips to Wisconsin and writing postcards to swing states. People in our area are excited about Harris-Walz, while local Republicans are absolutely tied to the disastrously out of touch Trump-Vance team. The choice for Lake County voters couldn’t be any clearer.”
