It’s Not Too Late to Vote by Mail
Voting by mail is convenient and time-saving. It guarantees that you’ll have your voice heard, no matter the weather, the lines, or unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from getting to the polls. It’s not too late to apply for a Vote by Mail ballot! The deadline is March 14.
Voting in primaries lets Democratic officials know we’ll have their backs on things Democrats care about, like preserving democracy and reproductive rights.

March is Women’s History Month
In honor of Women’s History Month, Lake Dems celebrates women — past, present, and future — who have and will continue to lead with strength and courage to protect our Democratic values.
Abigail Adams (1744–1818): As wife to President John Adams, and her husband’s confidante and adviser, she opposed slavery and pushed for women’s rights and education. Her famous line “remember the ladies” was followed by urging her husband not to “put such unlimited power into the hands of the husbands.”
Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm (1924–2005): The first Black woman to run for a major party nomination for president of the United States once said, “At present, our country needs women’s idealism and determination, perhaps more in politics than anywhere else.” Chisholm’s quote from 1972 is just as relevant today.
Maria Peterson, Candidate for State Rep. District 52: In 2022, Maria was asked to run for the 26th District state senate seat. She engaged with residents by going door-to-door and listening to their concerns, personally knocking on over 5,000 doors before the 2022 primary. She was committed to replacing the then-current, out-of-touch, NRA-sponsored Republican Party minority leader in Springfield. She came within 385 votes of winning (49.9%). That state senator was removed from his party leadership before the final votes were even counted. She remains committed to fighting for legislation that promotes reproductive health care and gun violence prevention as she campaigns for election to the Illinois State House 52nd District.

Ramadan is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims. It’s a reflective time of worship, prayer, helping others, and spending time with loved ones.
We wish the blessings of this holy month to our friends who observe Ramadan.

Lake Dems Hosts Cookies and Conversation
On Sunday, a group of voters from all over Lake County gathered for Cookies and Conversation, a casual forum to discuss the 2024 election and what we can do to make sure it’s not America’s last election. Many ideas were shared about how we can convince our Democratic friends and neighbors to vote in this vital election. Even in this Primary Election on March 19, attendees agreed that every Democrat should show how strong the Democratic vote is in Lake County by voting yourself and getting your friends to do so, too.
Opportunity: If you are willing to help us plan or host a conversation in your area, please email us at info@lakedems.org with the subject line “Cookies and Conversation.” We’ll work with you to make it happen.
