Candidates Q&A
Linda Troester
Candidate for Lake County Board, District 2
Why are you running? I love Lake County. I want my grandchildren to come back here to live when they grow up. This county has wonderful people and terrific resources, but we all need to work together to sustain and improve what we have. I believe that I can make a difference. I will not stand on the sidelines. I want to work to try to improve things and support others who are working hard to make our county better. Government really IS the work of all the people.
How have you helped Lake County residents thrive? I am currently a CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, protecting children in court cases, and I have been an Election Judge for several years. As an adult, I have volunteered for a variety of community activities, including “Meals on Wheels,” as a foster parent, been active in children’s sports, and an officer in local clubs.
Why vote for you? I have spent my entire career as a scientist working as a research biologist and regulatory toxicologist. My scientific training and my experience working in collaborative teams will make me an effective decision-maker on the County Board. I think like a scientist and am guided by research and facts, but I also understand that we must collaborate effectively with others to get the results we all want.

Sara Knizhnik
Candidate for Lake County Board, District 18
My name is Sara Knizhnik, and I’m thrilled to be the Democratic nominee for the Lake County Board – District 18. I’m a candidate, but, like so many of you, I’m also an agent of change.
In support of progressive values, you’ve protested and stood up for change. You’ve stood for gun violence prevention, LGBTQ+ rights, a greener future and the chance for everyone to earn a decent wage and a secure future for their families. And, I’m so proud to stand with you.
For us, progressive values are a way of life. And, together, we’re building a Lake County that’s founded on respect, dignity, and love for all.
I’m running for the Board because of YOU. The Tenth Dems community has inspired me to do more. Much more. Together we’ve advocated for and won so many gun safety initiatives. What I’ve learned on this journey is that gun violence is a symptom of the systemic inequities and social ills that exist everywhere in our communities. And, until we address these root causes, we will never be free.
I’m in this fight because I believe local government can and should be a force for good in people’s lives. But this can only happen if we put people in office who have what it takes to make change and are serious about reform. I’m serious about reform. And I’m committed to working together with YOU to make Lake County as safe, green, and affordable as it can be. For everyone.
