When: Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 9:00 am sharp
Where: Course starts and finishes at Walker Ave. and Sheridan Rd., Highwood
What: The 5k starts at 9:00 sharp, registration begins at 7:30 am or register in advance. Warm-up is by Midtown Athletic Club at 8:30 am. Race will end about 10:00 am. For more information on the 5K Pumpkin Run, click here. The Kid’s Dash starts at 8:45 am, and will be from one gateway to another. All runners are encouraged to race in costume. Cost is $45 for 5K race and $15 for Kids’ Dash.

Where: Carving stations in Highwood (locations vary)
What: Children’s pumpkin carving begins when District 112 schools are out at 1:00 pm. Market vendors, live music and children’s activities from 4:00 – 10:00 pm. Enter the “Most Pumpkins Carved Simultaneously Contest” that begins a 7:00 pm. Arrive at 6:00 pm to help set up or at 6:30 pm for the warm-up show by Midtown.
Sponsors and volunteers are needed for Highwood’s world record breaking effort to carve 32,000 pumpkins. There’s a job for everyone and shifts are as short as 2 1/2 hours. For volunteer information or to sign up, send an email or contact 773-593-1407. More information on Facebook.

What: Open Communities invites you to join them for a screening of “Inequality for All,” a documentary film that examines widening income inequality in the United States. There will be an informal discussion at Michael’s following the film
The first 25 tickets sold by Open Communities will be $8.50 (normally $11) and can be pre-purchased online.
