Inferno Fest and American Flag Retirement Ceremony in Highwood

When: Wednesday, July 14, 2013 from 4:00 – 9:00 pm

Where: Everts Park, 130 Highwood Ave., Highwood

What: The Inferno Fest will highlight spicy pasta dishes, peppery nuts and popcorn, piquant tacos and salsa, hot wings, and live music. Oberweis Milk Angels will be on hand with glasses of cold milk which interacts with spices to cool taste buds in a way that water or soda cannot.

Inferno Fest will feature an all-you-can-eat Tamale Infernales Competition (click to register), where contestants can see how many spicy tamales they can eat in five minutes. The competition will begin at 7:00 pm, and all competitors must sign a waiver prior to the contest. Entry fee is $10, and $300 in La Casa de Isaac gift certificates will be awarded to the winner.

The honorary American flag retirement ceremony will take place at 8:00 pm. American flags to retire will be respectfully burned, and the ashes ceremoniously buried by Commanders from the American Legion and Boy Scout Pack #35 of Oak Terrace Elementary School. Guests are encouraged to come with flags for retire, and leave with a memory of participation.
