Governor Quinn stopped by Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire on July 3 to officially sign the “Suffrage at 17” bill, joined by many of the young people whom the law will benefit. Those eligible to vote in November now also will be able to vote in the primaries, even if they are still 17 at the time of the primary elections.

Republicans in the House have stalled the agriculture bill, pealing off funding for nutrition safety net programs like school lunches and food stamps while they try to reauthorize and increase subsidies for agribusiness. In the meantime, Senate Republicans, including Illinois’ own Mark Kirk, delayed action to cap student loan interest rates.
