WBAI Program on Gender Discrimination in the Workplace: “The Good Girls Revolt”

What: The Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) invites you to hear from Lynn Povich and Jesse Ellison about their experiences leading to the 1970 sex discrimination lawsuit against Newsweek magazine. Lynn will discuss her book, The Good Girls Revolt, about how she and the women of Newsweek made feminist history. Jesse will share her current-day perspective on how women continue to face gender bias in the workplace.

WBAI Screening of Documentary Film About Sexual Assault in the Military: “The Invisible War”

What: The Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI), the National Conference of Women’s Bar Association members and the ABA Commission of Women in the Profession invite you to a screening of “The Invisible War,” a documentary film about sexual assault in the military. A networking reception hosted by the WBAI will be held following the screening.

Chicago Area Political Item Collectors Winter Meeting

Where: Trinity International University, Nelson Hall, Waybright Student Center, 2063 Half Day Rd., Deerfield (on Rte. 22, 2 blocks east of I-94/Tri-State Tollway or five miles west of IL-41)

What: The Chicago Area Political Item Collectors Chapter invites you to their Winter Meeting which has a special focus on items relating to President John F. Kennedy. The event is family friendly; admission and parking are free. Trinity University is a smoke-free campus and school-age children are welcome. There will be a Door Prize Drawing at 2:30 pm.

POSTPONED: Rep. Laura Fine Hosts Concealed Carry Forum

When: Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm To be rescheduled

Where: Glenview Police Station, 2500 E. Lake Ave., Glenview

What: Representative Laura Fine will host a discussion on the law that went into effect on January 1, 2014. As of January 7th, the Illinois State Police had received more than 11,000 applications for a Concealed Carry License. To help ensure that everyone understands and is prepared for the implementation of the new concealed carry law, local business owners and residents are invited to attend this forum with representatives from the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. The event is free and open to the public.
