02/11/2023: Let’s Talk Politics – The Assault Weapon Ban Law in Illinois with Rep. Bob Morgan

When: Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 4:00pm. Doors open at 3:45pm.

Where: Max and Benny's Restaurant, 461 Waukegan Road, Northbrook

What: This is the latest edition of Tenth Dems University's (TDU) Let's Talk Politics series. State Representative Bob Morgan, whose district includes Highland Park, has led the legislation in Springfield to ban assault weapons.

Let's Talk Politics is a moderated discussion and allows opportunities for Democrats in and around the 10th District to talk about important issues of the day with each other and guests that often include elected officials, candidates, political analysts, and authors. Admission is free and open to all Democrats.


02/14/2023: Lake County Rising Poem and Essay Contest for Students

When: Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 6:30pm

Where: Round Lake Beach Civic Center, 2007 N. Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach

What: Lake County States Attorney Eric Rinehart sponsors the tenth annual Lake County Rising poem and essay contest for Lake County high school students, including poster entries from those in middle school. The theme is "Love Unchained: Finding, Defining, and Reclaiming Our Voices." Winners will be announced at the event, which includes a resource fair for nonprofit organizations that provide services to women and/or children. 02/16/2023: Documentary Screening, “Mikva! Democracy is a Verb”

When: Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  5:00pm: Open Bar and Appetizer Reception; 6:00pm: Documentary screening.

Where: Chicago History Museum, 1601 N. Clark Street, Chicago

What: Special screening of Emmy-nominated documentary, "Mikva! Democracy Is a Verb," about the life and legend of the former U.S. Congressman, Federal Judge and White House Counsel Abner Mikva. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Director Bob Hercules, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Mikva Challenge students and special guests. Proceeds will go to Mikva Challenge. 02/16/2023: Holly Kim’s Lunar New Year Celebration

What:  Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim's Lunar New Year Celebration welcoming the Year of the Rabbit.  The event features the Chinatown lion dance troupe and other cultural performances. Refreshments included. Register here.

02/21/2023: Lake County’s Gun Violence Prevention Initiative (GVPI) with Eric Rinehart and Sara Knizhnik.

What: League of Women Voters Chicago, in partnership with the Union League Club of Chicago, sponsors a discussion of Lake County's Gun Violence Prevention Initiative (GVPI) with Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart and GVPI Chair Sara Knizhnik. 05/04/2023: North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic Annual Spring Event 2023

When: Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 6:30pm

Where: Pinstripes, 1150 Willow Rd., Northbrook

What: The North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic celebrates its 8th Anniversary. The clinic provides accessible, quality, equitable, free legal services in the areas of domestic violence, housing, and immigration to give low-income, at-risk community members access to justice and the opportunity to live productive and secure lives.
