Tenth Dems University

Where is the 10th District of Illinois?

We are in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago. We make up most of the eastern portion of Lake County, and most of the far northern suburbs in Cook County. Along Lake Michigan, the district runs from Wilmette on the south through Waukegan on the north. We go as far west in Lake County as Libertyville, Long Grove and Buffalo Grove. In Cook County, we extend west through Wheeling and Arlington Heights and into parts of Palatine, Hoffman Estates, and Barrington.

Do I need to be a resident of the 10th District to enroll in Tenth Dems U?

No. Many of our courses are geared toward 10th District residents, but almost everyone can benefit from our courses, no matter where you live. We welcome students from all over the area.

Who runs Tenth Dems U?

We are the Tenth Congressional District Democrats, or Tenth Dems, for short. We are a group of grassroots volunteers who support Democrats for local, county, state and national office.

Where are classes held?

Classes are held in all parts of the 10th District, wherever we can find a facility that can accommodate our needs. Check the list of courses to see where each one is being held.

Who are the instructors?

Are they qualified to teach the courses that are offered?
Our “professors” come from a variety of fields, and most are not only well-versed in the subjects they teach, but have also worked in these areas and acquired years of experience. You will be learning from some of the best political minds and some of the most active leaders in our community. Look at the list of courses that we offer to see who is teaching and why they are qualified to teach.

Do you offer degrees?

We are not a “real university,” but we do offer real learning. To recognize those who have made an effort to become better educated in the political system, we do offer an Associate’s of 10th District Politics Degree to anyone who completes five courses; a Bachelor’s of 10th District Politics to those who complete ten courses; a Master’s of 10th District Politics to those who complete 20 courses; and a Doctor of 10th District Politics degree to those who complete 30 courses. We hold an annual graduation event to award our degrees to the worthy recipients.

How can you do this at no cost?

Good question. We don’t charge tuition, but we will gladly accept any donations to Tenth Dems U. It is through the generosity of people like you that we can make this happen. If you want to help, click here to donate to Tenth Dems.

How do I get started?

It’s easy. Check this website every month for a new list of courses being offered. All you have to do is register on-line. Seating is limited for some of the locations, so it’s important to register in advance to reserve your spot in the class.

I noticed that the Tenth Dems logo has a Latin phrase on it.

What does it mean?
“Studemus. Laboramus. Vincimus.” is Latin for “We study. We work. We win.” Studying the issues and acquiring the skills to be effective volunteers and candidates, and working to make our dreams for a better America come true, is a winning solution for our society.
