Lake County, IL – The Lake County Democrats (Lake Dems) and the Tenth Congressional District Democrats (Tenth Dems) released the following statement:
On September 18, 2021, the very same day as the ‘Justice for J6’ rally to push for the release of pro-Trump rioters from the January 6th attack on the US Capitol, the Lake County Republicans hosted a right-wing ‘voter integrity’ training led by far-right conspiracy theorists. The Lake County Republicans promoted the event with a flyer that told followers to ‘Stop Voter Fraud!’ and asked, ‘Do you believe that in 2020 Joe Biden received almost 500k more votes than Hillary?’
This is what Lake County Republicans posted:
‘The Lake County Republicans have broken their silence to promote Donald Trump’s lie about the supposed invalidity of the 2020 election. It’s absurd statements like the one local Republicans told its followers that led to Trump supporters assaulting the US Capitol on January 6th,’ said Lauren Beth Gash, Chair of the Lake County Democrats. ‘It’s clear the local Republican Party is just too extreme for the people of Lake County. And if the Lake County Republicans know the details about how Donald Trump magically won the 2020 election, they shouldn’t keep it to themselves – they should come out and tell everyone, including the voters. If not, they should stop spreading lies that undermine our very democracy.”
The Illinois Conservative Union’s Carol Davis, the extremist who led the so-called ‘training’ at Republican headquarters in Grayslake, has pushed the right-wing lie that Trump supporters were not responsible for the January 6th attack. The Lake County Republicans’ speaker also has praised far-right Congresswoman Mary Miller, who was admonished for speaking positively about Adolf Hitler, and Davis said she wants ‘435 more [members of Congress] like Marjorie Taylor Greene,’ the notorious QAnon-supporting Republican Congresswoman.
This public stance was a shift for the local GOP. After being called on by Lake Dems and Tenth Dems in the wake of the January 6th assault on the US Capitol to tell the public if they agreed that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, the Lake County Republican Party remained silent.
Later, the Lake County Republicans refused to tell voters if Trump lost the 2020 election after Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney was removed from her Republican Party leadership position after stating several times that Trump had lost. And the Lake County Party stayed silent after being asked again after the 6-month anniversary of the January 6th attack.”
