Local Democrats Hold Large Virtual Discussion about Reproductive Rights with House Speaker Chris Welch and Other Experts

WOW! Over 100 people joined Lake Dems and Tenth Dems on Monday, April 19, 2021, for our “Speaking with the Speaker” conversation about defending and advancing women’s reproductive rights in Illinois, including Parental Notice of Abortion Act (PNA) repeal. Thank you to the amazing and inspiring panelists, Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, Melissa Widen, an attorney with the ACLU Bypass Project who’s also served as Chair of the Board of Personal PAC, and Dr. Allison Cowett, Co-Director of Family Planning Associates.

The audience of over 100 people, including attorneys seeking free CLE credit, stayed until the very end. After the presentations, participants asked the experienced panelists several questions about the politics surrounding reproductive rights. The panelists were realistic in their outlook, which was optimistic and empowering. Speaker Welch reminded the crowd that their activism matters and individuals can continue to stand up for reproductive rights simply by letting their representatives know that they, as constituents, support policies that protect and advance those rights.

Thank you to all our volunteers and supporters who helped make the event possible and who keep us going as we work to elect Democrats and fight for reproductive justice.
