What: New Trier Township’s Democratic Committeeman Dean Maragos is hosting the annual NTDO “thank you” party for all the good Democrats and Independents who’ve played a part in making New Trier “all blue.” Free beer, wine, soft drinks and lots of pizza! See you there.

Events: Sierra Club Lunch and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Public Meeting

When: Sunday, January 19, 2014. Lunch 12:00 pm. Buses will take attendees to public meeting in Chicago (See IIRON event below).

Where: Lunch meeting, Sierra Club, 70 E. Lake St., Ste. 1500, Chicago

What: Sierra Club is partnering with IIRON on its annual Martin Luther King Day Public Meeting in Chicago. Lunch and program take place at the Sierra Club and then buses will proceed to the public meeting that begins at 2:30 pm, with buses returning at 5:30 pm.

Events: IIRON Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration and Public Meeting

When: Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2:30 – 4:30 pm. Public Meeting 3:00 pm

Where: St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 8235 S. South Shore Dr., Chicago

What: IIRON (a network of multi-issue grassroots organizations) and The People’s Lobby invite you to join them for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration and Public Meeting. The theme is “Hope in an Age of Crisis: Reclaiming Dr. King’s Radical Vision of Economic Equality” and the purpose is to celebrate the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by carrying on his work. Sponsors are trying to make arrangements for a bus leaving from Edens Plaza Shopping Center (3200 Lake Ave. at Skokie Blvd., Wilmette) to St. Michael the Archangel (83rd and Lake Shore Dr.) that will depart between 12:30 – 1:00 pm and return between 5:30 – 6:00 pm.

Events: ICAT Marks Roe v Wade with “Silent Choices” Film

When: Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 4:30 – 7:00 pm

Where: Jane Addams Hull House Museum, 800 S. Halsted, Chicago

What: Join the Illinois Choice Action Team (ICAT) to celebrate the anniversary of Roe v Wade at a showing of the movie “Silent Choices” by Faith Pennick. “Silent Choices” is about abortion and its impact on the lives of African-American women. The film is a “hybrid” documentary: part historical piece, part social and religious analysis and part first-person narrative.

You are invited to join them for cake and discussion following the film. Suggested donation: $10.00. RSVP on Facebook. The Illinois Choice Action Team is a group of volunteers committed to advancing NARAL Pro-Choice America’s mission.

Where: First Corinthian Baptist Church, 1529 Elizabeth Ave., North Chicago

What: The North Shore Baptist Ministers’ Alliance presents the 35th Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Memorial Celebration. All are invited and welcomed. The event is free and open to the public.
